Mirjana Novak Cesar was born in Zagreb, Croatia.
In the early 90s, Mirjana and her husband moved to Orlando, Florida, where their three children were born.
She started painting in 2005, exploring floral themed mixed media. Since then, her art evolved to the current semi-abstract landscape paintings, animal-themed paintings and mixed media sculptures.
Her landscape art is a passionate exploration of the Croatian countryside, reimagined through the lens of semi-abstraction and mixed media. She is drawn to the raw beauty of rustic villages. She's utilizing a blend of acrylics, charcoal, oil and soft pastels to create a dynamic interplay of materials. Her semi-abstract approach allows her to delve beyond the surface of reality, capturing the essence of a place rather than its literal depiction. They are an invitation to slow down, and find solace in the quiet moments of existence.
Her animal portraits translate their souls onto canvas. In every stroke, she strives to unveil the unique personality and emotions that shimmer beneath fur and feathers, revealing the depth of feeling shared by our animal companions and the creatures who grace our planet.
Her mixed media sculptures are born from the vibrant chaos of up-cycled materials. Fabric scraps, paper clay, wire, yarns, and beads – each element finds new purpose in my creations. She's driven by the idea of transformation, taking discarded bits and pieces and weaving them into narratives inspired by the captivating world of old European mythologies, Slavic gods, ancient stories or animals. The very act of up-cycling resonates with the concept of metamorphosis present in these myths. The textures and imperfections of these elements become integral to the storytelling, adding a layers and depth to each piece.
Mirjana's fiber art and jewelry creations were published in numerous issues of:
Belle Armoire Jewelry, Belle Armoire, Sew Somerset, and Somerset Studio Gallery Magazines.
She's a resident artist at Faith Art Village Orlando.
